8 Weeks Before the house move

Create a Moving Binder: Start a moving binder or digital folder to keep track of important documents, receipts, and to-do lists.

Inventory and Declutter: Go through your belongings room by room. Decide what to keep, donate, sell, or throw away. This is an ideal time to declutter.

6 Weeks Before the Move

Hire Movers or Rent a Truck: If you’re using professional movers, book them now. If you’re doing it yourself, reserve a rental truck.

Start Packing Non-Essentials: Begin packing items you rarely use, such as seasonal decorations, off-season clothing, and infrequently used kitchenware.

4 Weeks Before the Move

Notify Important Parties: Inform your current and future utility companies, post office, and other important parties about your upcoming move.

Gather Packing Supplies: Purchase or gather packing materials like boxes, tape, bubble wrap, packing paper, and markers.

3 Weeks Before the Move

Label Your Boxes: As you pack, label each box with its contents and the room it belongs to. This will make unpacking much easier.

Pack Room by Room: Start packing items in each room. Focus on one room at a time to maintain organisation.

2 Weeks Before the Move

Pack Valuables: Safely pack and label important documents, jewellery, and valuables to carry with you personally.

Prepare Appliances: Clean and prepare appliances for the move. Defrost the freezer if necessary.

1 Week Before the Move

Pack an Essentials Box: Pack a box with essentials you’ll need immediately at your new home (toiletries, clothes, important documents, snacks, etc.).

Finish Packing: Try to have most of your packing done by this point, leaving only the essentials for the last days.

Moving Day

Final Check: Walk through each room to ensure nothing is left behind. Double-check that all boxes are properly labeled.

Loading: Give the removals company the opportunity to load the truck with your boxes and furniture.

After the Move

Unpack Essentials Box: Start by unpacking the essentials box and setting up your bed and basic furniture.

Prioritise Rooms: Unpack one room at a time, starting with the most essential areas like the kitchen and bathroom.

Dispose of Packing Materials: Recycle or dispose of packing materials responsibly.

Update Addresses: Update your address with relevant organisations, including the DMV, banks, and insurance companies.
